[link fix] What the f*** is happening to Medium publications?

Good afternoon Reader,

(Sorry if this is the second time you're seeing this email today -- I made a mistake with a link, which is now fixed!)

Medium publications are literally a make-or-break for new writers. If you're a new writer, they're often the difference between 10 views and 1 follower and 200 views and 20 followers per story. I found this out the hard way when I started a brand new secret profile -- publications made SO much of a difference to my growth as a "newbie."

So why are so many publications leaving Medium? P.S. I Love You, The Ascent, and now History of Yesterday have packed up and closed their doors.

I had the chance to interview Andre, the editor of History of Yesterday, about why he took his publication off Medium. And I made a video going into the history of publications on Medium (tumultuous), if they matter to writers (they 100% still do) and what writers should do about the publication question (continue submitting to pubs if they want to grow).

Hope you enjoy:

In case the embedded video doesn't work, here's the link.

Happy writing,

Zulie

P.S. I was sponsored by Glasp in this video! Glasp is a social web highlighter -- kind of like highlighting on Medium, but across the whole web AND you can follow other people to see what they highlight.

One of the best and easiest ways for you to help me is to engage with my sponsored content. You don't have to buy anything or do anything special. All you have to do is click this link. If you do love Glasp, you can sign up for free:

Good morning Reader, It is an uncomfortable truth that nobody really likes to acknowledge: to get better at writing, you should probably get better at taking feedback about your writing. (Sorry to Jane Austen for butchering her famous line.) I used to be terrible at dealing with comments from editors on my writing. I hated them! I feared them! I distrusted them! But you know what? To become a professional writer of any kind, you have to learn how to work with other people on that most...

Good morning Reader, Some exciting personal news: I've just been hired by Medium to be a product marketer! In short, I'll be doing a lot of what I have been doing - helping writers use Medium to write awesome stories - but now while wearing my sweet new Medium jumper. Here's the full story: Write Like Your Dream Employer Is Watching (or How I Got Hired by Medium) What does this mean for you? My focus will be more on Medium blogging specifically. In the past, I've written about AI tools, other...

Good morning Reader, Fun fact: my most-ever successful article started as a newsletter I wrote in about an hour. Seriously. Here's the story -- and if you were here a year ago, you might remember it! Around this time last year, I was getting fed up and annoyed with this one piece of advice I was seeing repeated everywhere: "You need to be on [insert platform]!" Insert platform was sometimes LinkedIn, sometimes TikTok, sometimes a newer platform like Threads. So I opened up my newsletter...
